One of the many benefits that essential oils can provide for you is energy!
All natural, healthy and clean energy.
Using essential oils for energy in the morning, on your way to work, or even later in the day when you need a boost to keep you going is a popular way to use oils.
There are a number of oils that work really well for this purpose.
Let’s dive into which oils to use and how they work to perk you up!
Essential Oils For Energy – How Do They Work?
My husband loves using essential oils for energy at night when he is doing some extra work.
Since he is not naturally a night person, he needs help keeping his mind and body awake. Otherwise, he would go to sleep at 8:00!
So as he works at his computer, he’ll diffuse specific oils, and before he knows it, it’s 10:30 and he’s done more than I thought he would! All without drinking coffee, which would then keep him awake all night.
So how do oils work to provide energy?
Oils work when inhaling them by immediately sending signals to parts of your brain that control of variety of systems and functions in your body. Your brain then sends signals to those areas and the effect is felt, although it’s usually very subtle.
By applying essential oils to your skin directly, the oils are absorbed into your bloodstream.
Oils that come from the citrus family (lemon, grapefruit, bergamot, etc) tend to have a direct affect on your mood, helping to uplift your mood and decrease stress, thus, feeling more energized.
Other oils, such as peppermint or eucalyptus, are great for encouraging deep breathing, which allows more oxygen to the brain and throughout your body, which is another way they can help physically.
How To Use An Essential Oil For Energy
You can use oils in whichever way you already like using oils.
Inhaling them is often the most effective way to experience the benefits of oils in general (not just for energy).
Ways To Inhale:
- Add oils to your diffuser and let it fill the room with the aroma.
- Use a car diffuser on your morning commute.
- Use a USB diffuser while working to stay focused and alert.
- Add a few drops to a steamy shower in the morning to create an energizing, spa-like experience.
- Keep an essential oil inhaler with you for a concentrated aroma whenever you need it.
Other than inhalation, you can apply energizing essential oils to your skin in a variety of ways.
- Add 1-2 drops to your hands, along with a pump of a carrier oil, and rub onto your wrists, chest and spine.
- Add oils to your lotion, body wash or shampoo.
- Make an energizing roller bottle with 10-15 drops of your favorite oil combination and apply to wrists and spine throughout the day.
Now let’s look at the most effective essential oil for energy.
Energizing Essential Oils
Here are some of the best energizing essential oils:
1- Breathing Deep
Peppermint | Eucalyptus
These are two of our favorite essential oils to wake up in the morning.
Using these in the diffuser first thing in the morning or in the shower is the way to go. The aroma itself is refreshing and invigorating. It’s great to diffuse while stretching or working out, to help with deep breathing.
Peppermint oil is my husbands go-to at night for clean energy and mental alertness while working and reading.
Plus, these blend well with so many oils (anything citrus, cedarwood, and more).
2 – Citrus Mood Boosters
Orange | Lemon | Lime | Grapefruit
Although each citrus oil is unique with their own set of benefits, some of their energizing properties are very similar.
These are happy scents!
They just feel good to breathe in. They work to boost your mood, support and raise feelings of joy and happiness, and help to reduce stress.
They are cleansing and often remind you of a clean environment, which is associated with energy and productivity.
3 – Earthy and Grounding
Cedarwood | Pine | Northern Lights Black Spruce
Oils like these, that smell like you are walking through the woods, can have a positive effect on your brain.
They may actually remind you of hiking in the woods, which is a high energy activity.
These are great for blending with other energy positive oils such as citrus and peppermint.
4 – Herbaceous and Strong
Rosemary | Basil | Juniper
These floral oils can provide stimulating effects in your body and brain and help fight low energy levels.
They can help to reduce your levels of stress, which will in turn lower your fatigue levels. The aromas aren’t quite as refreshing as the fruity or minty oils, but they work wonders in fighting sluggishness and stimulating your mind.
Blending It All Together
To be honest, I usually blend many of these oils together for an energy powerhouse. A typical blend for me would be
Deep Breathing + Citrus + Woodsy|(Peppermint + Lime + Cedarwood – for example)
Lemon + Peppermint
Roller bottle – 15 drops each
Diffuser – 3-5 drops each
So go forth and be energized! All naturally and without a caffeine crash. I absolutely love using essential oils for waking up and I know you will too.
