Essential oils are amazing companions to have in the changing seasons.
Changing seasons can bring seasonal issues, either health-wise, skin-wise, or other.
But there are oils that help with every season, and I want to highlight a few ways oils help me and my family each season of the year!
1 – Spring
Along with the rain, flowers, and occasional sunshine, Springtime brings ALLERGIES.
And both my son and I suffer pretty heavily during this time. Good thing I’ve got oils!
Oils from the Young Living Starter Kit that may help with allergies include:
Oils not from the Starter Kit that may help:
- Eucalyptus Blue
For seasonal allergy support, you can
1- Make a seasonal support roller using
+ 10 drops Peppermint
+ 10 Drops Lavender
+ 10 Drops Lemon
Top with fractionated coconut oil
2- Rub roller under your nose, on wrists, and on feet throughout the day.
3- Diffuse any combination of oils listed above throughout the day.
4- Do a “lavender swipe” by taking one drop of lavender and swiping it on the inside of your cheek (inside your mouth)
5- Put 8-10 drops on a cotton ball and place in the vents of your car OR use a car diffuser if you have a USB port in your car
6- Take one vegetable capsule with DiGize 2 times daily.
2 – Summer
I love our DIY essential oil bug spray. It works well for us here in Michigan (summer mosquitos get crazy!)
To make it, it helps to have a couple of super affordable oils, along with some from your Starter Kit. My favorite recipe is:
- 10 drops Citronella
- 5 drops Lemongrass
- 5 drops Peppermint
- 5 drops Lavender
- 5 drops Purification
- Then fill the small glass spray bottle with ¼ parts witch hazel, ¾ parts water.
Plus it smells good and you don’t (necessarily) have to deep clean your body afterwards, like when you use traditional bug spray full of toxic chemicals.
BUT, when you forget your bug spray and get some bites, just put a drop of lavender on fresh bites for awesome relief 🙂
3 – Fall
I’m a fall girl, all the way. Favorite time of the year by far. But Fall, unfortunately, brings with it the cold and flu season.
Luckily we have oils that offer great support!
We love using immune support rollers.
You can literally just add 20-30 drops of Thieves and top with coconut oil, and you’d be doing great.
Or you can add:
- 15 drops Thieves
- 10 drops Frankincense
- 5 drops Lemon
I also usually add Oregano oil (super strong). This is a wellness powerhouse oil and is definitely worth getting in the fall/winter.
I use the roller daily, even when I’m not sick (preventative support is the best)!
You can also take a drop or 2 of Thieves internally throughout the week or when you are feeling something coming on. Just add a drop or 2 of Thieves and Peppermint to a veggie capsule and swallow (I don’t do this daily, but rather as needed).
Winter has many challenges (we aren’t a winter family. At least not a Michigan winter family, which is currently where we are. Hawaii ‘winter’ sounds great…)
We continue using immune support rollers during winter.
We diffuse a lot since we stay inside pretty much all day every day. Though we will sometimes use cozy oils (like Thieves), we find ourselves diffusing citrus oils a lot to help boost our moods when we’ve gone 25 days without sunshine…
Occasionally I’ll whip up some Summer diffuser blends (listed above) as a little escape from the snow 😉
And when you feel the congestion coming on, a respiratory roller is a great help!
To make one, combine:
- 10 drops Lemon
- 10 drops Frankincense
- 10 drops Raven (not recommended for kids under 6)
- Top with a carrier oil.
Roll on the chest frequently.
You can also steam diffuse Raven in the shower to support open airways!
And there you have it, a few handy ways to use essential oils during each season! Obviously, there are WAY more ways you can use oils each season, but this is a great starting point! 🙂
