Essential Oils And Wellness

I first turned to essential oils for emotional support (but I didn’t realize they could do so much more)

I first started using oils because I was desperate for some emotional support. 

I had gone through two miscarriages at the time and was looking for anything to help with feelings of anxiety and overwhelm. We tried for a few years to have our second child, and it just. wasn’t. working…

I know there are so many women out there who go through the same thing. It’s hard. So hard.

Essential oils to help with all the feels

My first miscarriage was pretty traumatic. It ended with a night spent in the Emergency Room, followed by a very expensive, last-minute surgery a week later.

Not only did it take a MASSIVE toll on me emotionally, but it messed up our finances for a long time, only adding to the stress levels. 

About a year later, we mustered up the courage to try again (much easier for my husband to do).

This time, we didn’t go quite as long before finding out something was wrong. But while my body thought there was a growing baby inside of it, there wasn’t a baby there…

It was really weird and really sad.

So in the midst of all of that, I found myself trying out essential oils.

I wanted to find safe, natural ways of supporting myself, my soul, and my emotions during this time.

And after hearing of how essential oils have helped so many other people in similar ways, I decided to give them a go.

Starting my essential oil journey

I got my Young Living Starter Kit because I knew it came with emotionally supportive oils such as Lavender, Frankincense, Valor, and Stress Away (along with 8 other oils), and I was absolutely hooked from day 1.

I was using the diffuser that came with my Starter Kit to fill my home with the incredibly relaxing, soothing blend called Stress Away, which smells like a sweet, tropical island. I would rub Stress Away on my wrists all the time, particularly before doing anything remotely stressful, and it helped me so much.

At first, I didn’t love the smell of Valor (a lot of people think the same), but now it’s my FAVORITE oil by far. It’s so comforting, so grounding, so helpful to me.

I rub this on my skin all. the. Time. It smells so good, so unique, and I can’t imagine going a day without this oil now. So crazy to think that something so supportive is all-natural, made up of distilled plants from across the globe.

And lavender, of course, is a favorite as well. 

I’ve always kind of struggled with sleep. It makes me mad.

My husband lays down and is asleep in less than a minute. That also makes me MAD. (I like pillow talk, him, not so much…)

But I love diffusing lavender in our room as we drift off to sleep. It’s so relaxing, so helpful. There are tons of scientific studies showing that lavender can have a big effect on sleep quality (as well as stress and anxiety).

Usually, I diffuse lavender, and I’ll also rub some on my wrists and the bottoms of my feet for extra sleep support. Plus, it’s great for helping kids as well!

Using essential oils to support my son naturally

I also really wanted to support my son (who was about 2 at the time of our first miscarriage) in safe, natural ways.

I wanted to do better for him. I didn’t want to expose him to so many chemicals, toxins, and other crap that could be affecting him now and long into his future.

I wanted my home to be safer, feel better, and be healthier for him and for all of us.

So I was encouraged to know I could use essential oils to do just that. He now has a diffuser in his room to support better sleep at night. He uses oils on his belly when he has a tummy ache.

He also struggles with seasonal allergies and uses a blend of oils daily on his skin for support and relief.

He loves his oils as much as I do!

But I never saw all of this coming…

Even when I first started using oils, I could have NEVER anticipated all the ways they have supported our family since that first jump.

They became part of our everyday routine from sleep support, immune support, the emotional tools that I was desperately needing, even support with energy in the long days of motherhood. 

AND they became the foundation and starting point for us to create a toxin-free home! I didn’t even really know that was a thing.

But as I started using oils, and as I was engaging with people in our Facebook support group, I found out people were using oils (and other oil-based Young Living products) to COMPLETELY replace chemical-based products from their homes!

I was so excited to learn that, not only was it a possibility, but that it was actually SUPER easy and fun to do so!

We now hardly use any chemical-based products in our home. We LOVE living as naturally as possible (but still convenient, easy lives, lol..).

One simple yes turned into a ripple effect of creating a safe place our family could thrive in and I’m forever grateful.
