Choosing To Foster – Beginnings

By December 29, 2018 March 5th, 2019 No Comments

Our journey with Foster care started honestly, probably about a year ago. We were praying about what our next steps would be in growing our family whether that be trying for another baby or possibly looking into adoption.

We had a few friends praying for us throughout the time, and low and behold Justin got a call from our friends (hi Nick!) and he told Justin that God gave him the word “Foster.”

We didn’t tell them the things we were considering at all before hand, so this word came and hit hard, but we really weren’t sure what to do with it at that point.

And to be honest, we had a hard time wondering if it was something we could actually do.

Choosing To Foster

Fast forward about 6 months and maybe only a handful of conversations about the topic, with still no conclusions or ideas (but God secretly working on both of our hearts separately) we were watching ‘America’s Got Talent’ when they showed a contestant’s family and their history, all about the foster care system, and how they have adopted all of their children from this.

Something about that night, God did something. I don’t really know how to explain it, but as we were both laying in bed, eyes tearful, and hearts pounding, we both said, “let’s do this.”

(also, watching This Is Us may have influenced us just a lot…)

Over the past few months now, and after going through trainings and and becoming more aware and informed of what is going on, our hearts are growing so on fire for this system and feel a move of God taking place in this country specifically with Foster Care.

I really can’t describe it, but somethings happening and we feel completely honored to be joining in.

Here’s the thing. We are just starting. We are still finalizing paper work, and haven’t had our first child in our home yet, and have so. much. to. learn. But we just want to keep saying yes, and see what God does.

I think one of my favorite things about God, is that He uses people who honestly don’t really know what they are doing, but are willing, and He brings revival and restoration through that. We feel really humbled and excited to take you on our little journeys with us through this process. And hope it inspires you to know that if we can do this, you can.

And that could look a million different ways. Whether just praying, volunteering, and simply just being aware of ways to help, I’m really excited to see what God does.
