The benefits of going toxin-free at home (and why it’s not as hard as you think)

By July 20, 2020 No Comments

Did you know our homes are full of chemicals, synthetic ingredients, and other substances that may be toxic, and are probably harming us in some way?

It’s kinda sad but definitely true 😐

But the BIGGER problem is that most people won’t care until it’s too late. Until something bad happens. It often happens quietly. Over long periods of time.

It’s far better to care now and to make changes now (especially since it’s never been easier).

SO MANY household products, from hand soap and lip balm to laundry detergent and candles can contain chemicals that may or may not be causing immediate discomfort, or long term (slowly developing) issues.

BUT!

There is a better way!

You can actually go chemical-free in your home, and it’s not as hard as you think!

Today I’m going to highlight 3 major benefits of ditching your dependence on chemical-based products and switching to all-natural, safe, and healthy products! 🙂

But beyond going ‘toxin-free,’ the real goal is to simply have a healthy and safe home for you and your family to thrive in,

And if you’d like the free “how-to” guide for actually making it happen, you can download it right now, right here.

How chemical-based products may be hurting us

There can be quite a few issues with chemical-based products. Not every single person is going to experience all the negative in the same way (if they experience them at all), as our bodies are unique and respond differently.

However, if something is toxic and unhealthy, whether you experience a negative reaction or not, it’s best to avoid it and replace it with something natural no matter what.

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Some of the toxic ingredients you’ll definitely want to avoid include:

  • “Fragrance” – anything with fragrance listed as an ingredient is BAD. It’s basically a secret recipe of chemicals that they don’t legally have to disclose due to “trade secrets”
  • Triclosan – may be found in soaps, deodorants, cosmetics, shave gel, first aid spray, kitchenware and children’s toys.
  • Phthalates – may be found in plastic food packaging, lotions, skin moisturizers, fragrance, cleaners, glues and nail polish.
  • Formaldehyde – can be found in baby shampoo, pet shampoo, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, sunblocks, cosmetics, baby wipes, toothpaste, and more

And some of the negative effects of these ingredients (and others) includes:

  • Irritated eyes, nose, and throat.
  • Coughing, wheezing
  • Skin irritation, rashes
  • Irritability
  • Frequent headaches, feeling dizzy, and always feeling tired and fatigued.
  • Respiratory diseases, heart disease, and even cancer.
  • Triggers asthma attacks
  • And possible long-term diseases or birth defects

Don’t believe me? Check out EWG.org (Environmental Working Group). Here’s one of their many informational posts about “Triclosan.”

It shares a bit about how and where Tricclosan might be hiding, how it was banned in some products but may still be finding its way into your home…

Anyways, enough of the bad news… Let’s focus on the positive benefits of switching to all-natural, toxin-free products in your home, and everyday lifestyle! 🙂

Toxin-Free Benefit #1 – Cleaner air and healthier breathing at home!

Americans (and probably most people around the world) spend most of their time inside. More specifically, they spend most of their time IN THEIR HOMES.

That means most of the air we breathe is the air in our homes.

If that air is polluted, we are in trouble.

And according to the EPA, the air inside our homes is 2-5x more polluted than the air outside, largely due to toxic-household cleaners and pesticides.

But if you make the switch from toxic to natural, you’ll make a massive leap forward in your health and wellness!

Every product you have and use in your home contributes to the air quality. From air fresheners and candles to laundry detergent and dryer sheets (really bad!), and even your bottled up cleaning supplies locked away in the closet.

Switching to natural products may be able to:

  1. Alleviate allergies and symptoms
  2. Boost your mood and have more stable emotions
  3. Fewer headaches
  4. More energy
  5. More balanced hormones and fewer mood swings
  6. Less irritability
  7. And more!

To get the most bang for your buck, go after your laundry room and your cleaning supplies! These are likely the biggest offenders for your home’s air quality.

Toxin-Free Benefit #2 – Hormone and Emotional Support

There is a huge link between our endocrine system and indoor chemicals. Our endocrine system simply means “affects our hormones” which in turn affects much of how we feel physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Chemical ingredients often “disrupt” our endocrine system, which in turn wreaks havoc inside of us. The endocrine system regulates our emotions.

Because of this, our emotional wellbeing suffers when we are exposed to too many chemicals, for too long.

Here’s a simple example:

Go outside and find some bright, blooming flowers. Get up close and smell it. Really breathe it in!

How do you feel?

Calm?
Relaxed?
Happy?
Refreshed?
Like you are laying in a beautiful meadow?

Now open a bottle of chemical-based cleaner, put your nose right up to it, and take a big whiff.

Now how do you feel?

Confused?
Irritated?
Sick?
Frustrated?
Like you are in a laboratory?

Fill your life with flowers, not chemicals!

Your hormonal system will thrive, and as a result, your emotional health will skyrocket when you start to rid your everyday life of toxic products and replace them with all-natural, healthy products!

Toxin-Free Benefit #3 – A happier feeling home

Let’s take a moment to reflect on the example above about smelling flowers versus a chemical cleaner…

Would you rather your house have flowers in every room or open bottles of cleaner in every room?

Would you rather smell fresh lavender or lilac as you doze off to sleep at night, or Windex and bleach?

What smells make you happier in your home?

Now you can apply that to every type of product in your life, from the soap and shampoo you rub on your body, to the toothpaste you use (and inevitably swallow to some degree), and everything in between!

If you are surrounded on a daily basis by LIFE-GIVING products, you will consciously and unconsciously experience more joy and happiness.

Conversely, if you are surrounded on a daily basis by LIFE-SUCKING chemicals, you might not always be so happy…
